Fernando Fajardo Bullón

UNIVERSITY INSTITUTE OF EDUCATIONAL RESEARCH AND PROSPECTING-INPEX

Is a Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Education and Psychology at the University of Extremadura (UEX) and Head of the University Research Institute of Educational Research and Prospecting (URI-INPEx). He holds a degree in Psychology from the University of Salamanca and a PhD in Psychology from UEX (Spain). His research focuses on factors influencing mental health and psychological well-being, educational psychology, and social exclusion. He is a member of the editorial team of Psicodidactica (Q1) and serves as a reviewer for several high-impact international journals. He has participated as a researcher in international research programmes such as COST Actions, Horizon, and Biodiversa, as well as in national and regional projects. He has also been a visiting professor and collaborating researcher at universities including Coimbra (Portugal), Stirling (UK), and PUC-Rio (Brazil). He is a member of the Academic Committee of the Doctoral Programme in Psychology at the University of Extremadura.”

Adrián LLerena Ruíz

UNIVERSITY INSTITUTE OF BIOSANITARY RESEARCH OF EXTREMADURA

Specialist Doctor in Clinical Pharmacology. Full Professor since 1997. Professor in the PhD Programme Doctorate in Applied Biomedical Research, in the Master of Biomedical Knowledge Management and Clinical Research and in the MUI in Biomedicine and Health of the UEX. He has directed more than 30 PhD students and more than 600 interventions in scientific congresses, mainly international. Since 2006, he is the Director of the Clinical Research Centre of the Badajoz Health Area of the Public Extremadura Health Service. He coordinates the Ibero-American Society of Pharmacogenetics and Pharmacogenomics (RIBEF) since 2006. He is currently President of the Spanish Society of Pharmacogenetics and Pharmacogenomics (SEFF) and Board of the ESPT European Society of Pharmacogenomics and Theranostics, of which he is co-founder. Director of the INUBE University Institute of Biomedical Research of Extremadura since 2019.

José Augusto García-Agúndez Pérez-Coca

UNIVERSITY INSTITUTE OF BIOMARKERS FOR MOLECULAR PATHOLOGIES

He obtained his M.D. from the Medical School of UEX in 1983. During 1990 to 1992 he was a postdoctoral fellow at the Division of Pharmacology, Biozentrum University of Basel (Switzerland). Since 1986 he is a member of the Department of Pharmacology of UEX. Since 1998 he has been Chairman of the Pharmacogenomics and Metabolism Research Section. In 2010 he obtained the full Professorship degree at UEX. In 2023 he was appointed as Director of the University Institute of Molecular Pathology Biomarkers. Ranked as the top scientific author of the University of Extremadura in Biomedicine, by Stanford rankings using Scopus data as of October 2023.

Roberto Rodríguez Echeverria

UNIVERSITY INSTITUTE OF APPLIED INFORMATION TECHNOLOGIES RESEARCH

Roberto Rodriguez-Echeverria is an associate professor of software architecture at the Computer Languages and Systems Department of the Universidad de Extremadura (UEx), Spain. His research interests include software engineering, model-driven engineering, data-driven software development, machine learning, web engineering, and legacy software modernization. He has been head of INTIA since 2021. He is currently supervising 5 PhD students. Moreover, he truly believes in local socioeconomic value generation through entrepreneurship, so he ifounded in 2020 the UEx spin-off company, named MetrikaMedia, which defines itself as a SaaS solution for multimedia content measurement

Santiago Ruiz-Moyano Seco de Herrera

UNIVERSITY INSTITUTE OF AGRICULTURAL RESOURCES RESEARCH

He is director of University Institute for Agricultural Resources Research and an expert in postharvest studies of fruits and in beneficial microbes for food application. He has a solid background in molecular analysis of bacteria and chemical analysis of fruits. He has also collaborated in 110 communications presented at scientific conferences. Dr. Ruiz-Moyano is a reviewer of articles from 15 international journals with a high impact factor in the field of Food Science and Technology and Microbiology, and a member of the Spanish Society of Microbiology since 2006. In addition, he has co-directed 5 students of doctorate, and 53 Final Degree or Master’s Projects. Finally, he has participated in 21 projects financed in competitive calls (3 international), and he has an important collaboration with the region’s agri-food industries, participating in 60 company projects.

Felipe Leco Berrocal

UNIVERSITY INSTITUTE OF HERITAGE RESEARCH

PhD from UEX (1995). Head of the Department of Art and Territorial Sciences at the UEX from 2008 to 2016. Since June 2016, he has been head of the Heritage Research Institute (i-PAT). Coordinator of the Study Group on Rural and Local Development in Border Areas (GEDERUL). Academic coordinator of the Master’s Degree in Rural Development. Member of the Scientific Committee of the National Parks Autonomous Body (2012-2016), under the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment.

In 2019 he was awarded the “Culture, Art and Literature” Prize of the Rural Studies Foundation, which depends on the Small Farmers’ Union, for being “a great advocate of rural development and materialising it through the Master’s Degree in Rural Development”.Research specialist in rural development, demographic studies and lecturer in gender perspective in the Master’s Degree in Rural Development at UEX.

Gerardo Moreno Marcos

INSTITUTE OF THE DEHESA AT THE UNIVERSITY OF EXTREMADURA

He is a Full Professor at UEX, director of the Institute of the DEHESA of UEX since 2021, collaborator of MOSAICO, and funder member of the European Agroforestry Federation (EURAF). Gerardo has more than 30 year experience in research and outreach related to Mediterranean forest and agroforestry system ecology and management, with main focus on soil-plant relationships. Currently he is working on the search of more efficient management practices for the adaptation and mitigation of climate change and the provision of the ecosystem services of Iberian dehesas and other extensive pastoral systems. Currently, he coordinates the UEX team in three international projects (DIGITAF, RE-LIVESTOCK and RE-LIVE). Finally, at the light of his research, he collaborates on the elaboration of policy proposals and governance schemes for Mediterranean silvopastoral landscapes following integrated social-ecological approaches.

Susanne Schnabel

RESEARCH INSTITUTE FOR SUSTAINABLE LAND DEVELOPMENT

She is full professor of Physical Geography at UEX (MSc University of Toronto and PhD Freie Universität Berlin) and director of the INTERRA research institute. She was coordinator of the PhD programme on Sustainable Land Development from 2014 to 2017 and is currently its secretary. Research fields include studies about soil erosion, hydrological processes, land degradation, land use change, vegetation dynamics, as well as spatial modelling and GIS applications. She has coordinated a large number of national and international research projects and supervised 12 PhD thesis. The most European projects are AGROMIX, UNDERTREES and ECHO.

Jorge Ruiz Carrascal

UNIVERSITY INSTITUTE OF MEAT AND MEAT PRODUCTS

Professor of Food Technology and Director of the Institute of Meat and Meat Products (IPROCAR) at the University of Extremadura and Affiliated Professor at the University of Copenhagen (Denmark). Postdoc at the Foulum Research Center (1997-8, Denmark) and at Cornell University (1999, United States), and Professor of Food Science at the University of Copenhagen (2013–2017). Research focused on the quality and processing of meat and meat products, as well as culinary technological processes.
